4 Day Mount Meru Climb

On the first day, you will depart from Arusha early in the morning and head to Meru National Park. After a short drive, you'll arrive at the park gate for registration and a briefing about the trek ahead. Once everything is in order, you'll start your hike through the dense montane forest, where you may spot various wildlife, including monkeys and colorful bird species. The trail will lead you to the first overnight stop at Meriakamba Hut, located at 2,500 meters. After enjoying a delicious dinner, you’ll have the chance to rest and prepare for the ascent.

Day two begins with a hearty breakfast before you continue your trek from Meriakamba Hut. As you climb higher, you will transition from the forest zone to the open moorland, where you can admire the unique flora and fauna. After several hours of hiking, you will arrive at Saddle Hut, situated at 3,570 meters. This spot is ideal for relaxation and offers stunning views of the summit. Enjoy a warm lunch and take some time to explore the area. As evening approaches, you will have dinner at the hut and prepare for the summit attempt the next day.

On the third day, you will wake up before dawn, around 2:00 AM, to begin your summit ascent. The climb to the summit of Mount Meru (4,566 meters) involves navigating rocky terrain, and you will need a headlamp to guide you through the darkness. After several challenging hours, you will reach the summit just in time to witness a breathtaking sunrise. Take a moment to soak in the incredible views and celebrate your achievement. Afterward, you will begin your descent back to Saddle Hut, where a well-deserved breakfast awaits. Spend the rest of the day resting and recovering from the summit effort.

On the final day, you will start your descent from Saddle Hut back to Meriakamba Hut. Enjoy the scenic views and take time to appreciate the diverse landscapes as you hike down. Once at Meriakamba Hut, you can rest briefly before completing the trek back to the park gate. After registering your completion of the trek, you will begin your journey back to Arusha. By the evening, you will arrive back in Arusha, concluding your memorable 4-day adventure on Mount Meru.
