3 Day Mount Meru

On the first day, you will depart from Arusha and travel to Meru National Park. After arriving at the park gate for registration, you will begin your trek through the lush forest. This initial climb takes you through dense vegetation, where you might spot monkeys and various bird species along the trail. After several hours of hiking, you will reach Meriakamba Hut, situated at an altitude of 2,500 meters. Here, you can enjoy a well-deserved dinner and relax for the night, preparing for the ascent ahead.

The second day begins with an early breakfast before continuing your ascent from Meriakamba Hut. As you trek higher, you will transition from the forest zone to the moorland, experiencing a change in scenery and climate. In the afternoon, you will arrive at Saddle Hut, located at an altitude of 3,570 meters, nestled between Mount Meru and the crater. After enjoying lunch at the hut, take some time to explore the surrounding area, which offers stunning views of the summit. In the evening, you'll have dinner at the hut and rest, preparing for the challenging summit attempt the following day.

On the final day, you will rise early, around 2:00 AM, to begin your summit attempt. This part of the climb involves navigating rocky terrain, and you'll need a headlamp for visibility in the dark. After several hours of climbing, you will reach the summit of Mount Meru at 4,566 meters just in time for sunrise. The breathtaking views and the sense of accomplishment will be a highlight of your trek. Following a brief celebration at the summit, you will start your descent back to Saddle Hut for breakfast. After refueling, you’ll trek back to Meriakamba Hut and continue down to the park gate. By the evening, you will arrive back in Arusha, marking the end of your memorable adventure on Mount Meru.
